Our Start
At Maple Family Dental, our journey to Horace felt like destiny. We’ve always had a deep desire to be part of a close-knit, caring community, and Horace is just that—a growing town that deserves convenient, high-quality dental care close to home. We’re honored to be that trusted source for families here.
In 2014, while driving through Horace, Dr. Bultema felt a special connection to the area and began to consider establishing a practice where he could serve and build lifelong relationships with the community. However, after exploring options, the timing didn’t feel right, so we paused.
A year later, the pull to Horace remained strong. After prayer and seeking guidance, we asked for a clear sign that this was the right path. Remarkably, that same day, we received a call from people we had been in touch with a year before, reigniting the opportunity to pursue our dream. With that confirmation, we moved forward, and Maple Family Dental was born to serve the people of Horace with compassionate care and dedication.

It's all in the name
During the process of building our practice, we knew we needed the perfect name. We brainstormed ideas, made lists, and sought input from others. At the same time, our family was becoming licensed for foster care, and the word “Maple” kept appearing everywhere – in libraries, stores, doctors’ offices, and even online. One day, during a home training session with a social worker, the book “Maple” arrived at our door through the Dolly Parton Book Program. We began to wonder if “Maple” was a sign that we were meant to adopt a child by that name. We even asked the social worker to keep an eye out for any children named Maple.
Later, we realized that “Maple” was not only significant for our family but also a symbol for Dr. Bultema’s new “baby”—our dental practice. The name resonated deeply, reminding Dr. Bultema of his childhood memories collecting maple seeds from Lindenwood Park and planting them at home. Throughout each move, we transplanted a maple tree, carrying those seeds forward. Even today, we still hold onto them.
The day after deciding on the name “Maple Family Dental,” Dr. Bultema found a maple leaf right outside his work door. That moment confirmed our decision, and Maple Family Dental was born. We see this practice as a seed planted to grow into something beautiful, like a maple tree, serving others with the gifts we’ve been given.
Dr. Jonathan Bultema
Dr. Jonathan Bultema, a Fargo, ND native, began his career serving as a Dental Officer in the U.S. Navy, with assignments in Kaneohe Bay, HI, Corpus Christi, and Kingsville, TX. After his military service, he returned to his roots and spent several years providing dental care to the Fargo/Moorhead communities at a local Community Health Center. Dr. Bultema is an active member of the North Dakota Dental Association, American Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry. Additionally, he is involved in the Heartland Study Club and the Southeast District Dental Society.

Out and About
Dr. Bultema enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. In the summers, his family is busy with lake activities like swimming, boating, and also enjoys insect collecting, gardening, hunting, motorcycling, his kids’ school activities, and snow skiing. A year-round favorite activity is Lego building.
Dr. Jennah Calverly
Dr. Jennah Calverly is a native of Esko, Minnesota, Dr. Calverly’s journey into dentistry began early, inspired by her childhood dentist and a deep appreciation for the blend of science and artistry the profession offers. After starting her career in Rochester, Minnesota, she relocated to West Fargo in 2022 and served the community in Hawley. Committed to making every patient feel comfortable and at ease, Dr. Calverly focuses on providing high-quality dental care in a supportive and welcoming environment. She looks forward to serving the Horace community and upholding Maple Family Dental’s mission of delivering exceptional, patient-centered care.

Out and About
Dr. Calverly enjoys spending time with her husband, Derek, their two cats, Newton and Sputnik, and her horse, Nimbus. She loves reading, playing Nintendo Switch games, horseback riding, and staying active with walks and gym workouts. A self-proclaimed “huge Taylor Swift fan,” Dr. Calverly also enjoys traveling and cherishing moments with friends and family.
